Ibsen oyunu oynadığı Calais’i terk eden Alix, film seçmesi için Paris’e giden bir trendedir. Edebiyat profesörü Doug ise sevdiği bir arkadaşının cenaze törenine katılmak için Londra’dan Paris’e gitmektedir. Tanışmaları beklenmeyen bu ikili yine de tanışırlar. Tanışırlar çünkü eşiyle ilişkisi bir dönüm noktasında olan Alix Paris’e giden bu trendeki yakışıklı ve ciddi görünümlü beyefendiden hoşlanmıştır. Tanışırlar çünkü Doug her ne kadar aşık olacak bir vaziyette değilse de hızlı bir şekilde Alix’e vurulur.
Alix was on a train bound for Paris where she was going to an audition for a film Having just left Calais where she had performed in an Ibsen play. Doug, a literature professor, had left England for Paris, where he was to attend the funeral of a dear friend. They were not supposed to meet and yet they did. They did because Alix, whose relationship with her husband was at a crossroad, fancied this handsome serious-looking gentleman on the Paris-bound train. They did because Doug, although not in the mood for love, quickly fell for her.
