Deneme film, belgesel ve deneysel film yapımının unsurlarını son derece kişisel ve çoğunlukla politik bir ifade biçimine getiren melez bir formdur. Chris Marker, Harun Farocki, Patrick Keiller ve Agnès Varda türün klasikleşen örneklerini vermişlerdir. Son zamanlarda deneme film, dijital film yapımının paralelinde güçlü bir anlatı formu olarak gelişmektedir ki İngiltere’de gerçekleştirilen Essay Film Festivali de formun gelişimi için önemli bir odak sağlamaktadır. 28. AUFF programına özel bir seçki de sunan Essay Film Festivali’nden Matthew Anthony Barrington ile deneme film üzerine bir söyleşi gerçekleştirilecektir.
The essay film is a hybrid form that brings together elements of documentary and experimental filmmaking into a highly personal and often politically engaged mode of expression. Some classic exponents of the essay film are Chris Marker, Harun Farocki, Patrick Keiller, and Agnès Varda. But more recently the essay has flourished in the new era of digital filmmaking, and one of the aims of the festival is to provide a focus for the current global expansion of the form. A panel session will be held with Matthew Anthony Barrington as the representative of Essay Film Festival, which offers a special selection program for the 28th AIFF.
